The hot hot rays

The day before yesterday we swam in a river.

Wide and dark and stunningly cold, it took me some time to brave the semi opaque depths.  Thank goodness to have sunk in out of the all reigning heat.

I floated on my back far from the river bank, my lover over there playing with a baby girl.

Eyes on sky, sun scatters jigsaw light on the thick green surface, my body light for a change, supported by a cold, wet love.

I thought- what could be more beautiful than this moment? I could not ask nor wish for anything more.

The nature of romance- the simplest of things- yet we find it so hard to reach sometimes.

I am back to believing that it lies within fingers reach. Let it (romance) curl up in your imagination- a cream custard on a bench on the most breeching day of Winter

or a lick from a dog and a ball and some grass, by a river on the hottest day.
