Yanks for the mems...

Oxford bells, whilst eating supper. Nice touch.
Living here is like living IN a novel sometimes. I'm not sure what that would really feel like, so...er...yeah.

Mint tea. So much cake. They feed me a lot of cake at work. It's magic, I'm not complaining...my waistline might, but hey. After work today I called in on a friend, hoping for some hang time and beers, but he was not there sadly, so, I took myself off to port meadow and ate, slowly, one piece of lemon cheesecake followed by one piece of chocolate cake.

I did kind of wish I could have been sharing it with someone...anyone for that matter- you know those days when you just want to sit with someone, share the time, maybe not even have to say anything? It's one of those days. Even work was quiet, hardly anyone passing through...I got by, writing down words and drawings on the back of bits of scrap paper from the bin. Nice.

I thought I might be sad being back from New York, but no, sadness has not surfaced. Slight tug at the heart, but only in remembering beautiful moments, smiles come to my lips in packs.

A few *high* lights:

*Going back to Dia in Beacon and seeing the Imi Knoebel
( http://www.diabeacon.org/exhibitions/main/10 )

*Meeting Jef with one F there, and him asking me to put some work into action with him, by Franz Erhard Walther  ( http://www.diabeacon.org/exhibitions/main/109 ). I used one piece before lunch, but wanted to try a piece for two or more people, but being there alone, and being slightly shy, I was hesitant to approach a stranger to ask if they wanted to join me in trying on a garment and giving some action.  Jef had said 'howdy' to me in the main space, after I had rolled myself inside a massive cloth sandwich mattress, but I thought it was simply a sweet hello. Only later, whilst eating my salad in the cafe, did Jef approach me, telling how he had wanted to ask *me* to try actioning a piece with him. We talked buckets and it ended up he was from North London, in New York with his wife (who was currently in the City doing a beadwork course).  He proposed that we try one of the pieces made for two and so we did just that after eating. It was wonderful to share this completely surreal moment with a stranger, and to hence fulfill my want of sharing.    I dare anyone to go to Dia:Beacon and not fall in love with both the gallery and the location- right on the Hudson, a small creaking pier, softly prodding the water, small blue and green boats bumbling by. Be it rain or sun, it's simply a slice of peace. I wouldn't mind getting married there one day. I'm such a sicko.

Anyway. Back to HIGHlights.

*Getting a tattoo...not fainting, (nearly fainting) and laughing my heart out despite the pain of sweating so much I nearly caused a flood in the studio. My tattooist, Kike, at Brooklyn Tattoo, was a sweetheart and I would recommend him to anyone. ( http://www.brooklyntattoo.com/news.html ) It was something I had wanted to do for a long time, but after having spent a few days with some rock'n'roll DUDES the month before, all tattoo's and loveliness, I felt duly inspired to get inked. (Inked!!?). I'm glad I did. A small, arrow shaped reminder that I'm braver than I thought (and that I might as well just go ahead and fully accept that I'm a fully fledged romantic, which will never change- no matter how hard a time love chooses to serve me).

*Eating Roaka, handmade 'virgin' vanilla Rooibos chocolate at a tiny Sunday street market on 5th Avenue in Park Slope, followed by pickles from the charming pickle man and apples from the charming apple man.

*Meeting Chris in the Trois Pommes Patisserie in Park Slope ( http://www.troispommespatisserie.com/ )
and sharing stories and secrets over coffee.  Making new friends is the *best*.

*Going to a"cool" party type event for Converse with Matt, and laughing at all the haircuts and kidz queueing for free shoes whilst the Fiery Furnaces played with stony faces to the crowd whodidnotcare. It was all very surreal, and we got outta there quick!

*Central Park, Union Square GreenMarket (sipping apple cider in spanking sun), Washington Square at sunset - ALWAYS.

*The squirrel who jumped on my lap in Madison Square Gardens right after the man next to me, as he was leaving turned to me, motioned to take out my headphones and told me I was 'gorgeous', walking straight off and leaving me with a little bit of love in my lap. I needed it too.

*Lexington Candy Shop ( watch the video )... I ate my weights worth in cloud fluffy french toast and scrambled eggs with maple syrup and sampled the most incredible chocolate milkshake I have ever been slucky enough to slurp on...

I sat in a booth for two, next to the most stylish elderly lady, with sharp orange bob and grey tights. Apparently MACCA goes there! I did not know this until catching the vid...but I knew that man had good taste.
